English as a Second Language (ESL) is a class designed for students that don't speak English or not well enough to perform on grade level in the regular classroom. This may include students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Pangburn School uses several methods to identify a student as needing the special services offered with this program. One such instrument is the Language Assessment Scale (LAS). This test is recognized by the Arkansas Department of Education as being a reliable and valid test for placement purposes. Along with the LAS test, we use teacher observations, the MAC II test, and standardized test scores to aid in the placement process.
We currently do not have any students in our district receiving ESL instruction.
At Pangburn, we strive to meet the needs of all our students.
