Notes from Mrs. Schneider: We are doing the DRA test in Reading. This will tell me what level of book your child can read. We will start in Guided Reading after Labor Day. Our Spelling will start at that time also. In Math, we have been studying line segments, lines, and rays. We will continue to study these. We will start Unit 2 after Labor Day, and I will send home a family letter to let you know what your child is doing in Math.
Mrs. Holloway's class has been working really hard at getting our rules and procedures down. We are making great progress. We are excited about the year to come and are looking forward to the learning that is going to take place.
In literacy, we are going to start our group work and practice making connections with our text. In writing, we are going to start writing descriptive paragraphs and essays.
In science, we will start our classification unit and learn some really big words so be looking for those vocabulary flash cards to come home.

The class of Mrs. Melissa has been very busy getting the school year rolling along. We have completed many reading and spelling screenings. During Reader's Workshop, we will do a study on making connections while reading. We will begin our reading group studies the day after Labor Day. Also, we will have our first unit of Spelling begin the same week. During Writer's workshop, we will discuss how to compose a well-written descriptive essay. Social Studies has already been adventure for us while studying many maps and our country.
