ROTARY CLUBS PROMOTE LITERACY FOR STUDENTS
In an effort to improve literacy in our schools, The Rotary Club of Heber Springs and The Cleburne County Rotary Club joined forces to provide dictionaries to third grade students and a reading book to the second-grade students. Schools receiving literacy items were Concord, Heber Springs, Pangburn, Quitman, Rose Bud, West Side and Cleburne County Christian School. A total of 805 students and teachers were given a dictionary or reading book that would be theirs to keep at the end of the school year. The dictionaries are a resource for the Periodic Table of Elements, Roman Numerals, Multiplication Tables, Weights and Measures, Braille and Sign Language, Facts about Planets, Maps of the World, and other learning materials. The book titled “Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure” provides a storyline covering the four elements to Rotary’s 4 Way Test which is used by Rotarians to evaluate actions and responses to actions. Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Basic education and literacy are one of Rotary’s six areas of focus. Rotarians are “People of Action” who are making a difference locally, nationally, and internationally. The Object of Rotary is “to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” Prospective members and guests are always welcome to join us for a visit. Great job to 3rd grade who received extra recess time through their attendance competition. 3rd grade had the best attendance for 3rd-6th grade in the first nine weeks.

TRIO students were able to visit UCA this past Friday. They toured the campus, dorms, and were able to learn about different majors and degree programs.
This weeks Tiger Events...
Good luck to the Pangburn Air Rifle Team as they compete in the Student Air Rifle National Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. These students will be the first students from Arkansas to compete in a SAR tournament.
